Humility Chapter 7 09/07/2010
Murray now swithes gears on us here in chapter 7. Rather than having us look at ourselves, he invites us to consider how we look at others. This one hurt me a lot so you may want to brace yourselves. One More Week in Chapter 6 08/31/2010
I would like us to stay with Chapter 6 for one more week to give us a chance to practice its message. Remember, Murray says humility in relation to the Father is not true humility unless it manifests itself in relation to men. Therefore, listen to chapter six one more time. Then, find someone that most would consider to be in a lower position than yourself and serve them. Practice letting others go first. Practice thinking of everyone else's needs before your own. Think of what others are thinking about before you speak. Then, conciously attempt to make your words be about them and for them. Post your experiences here annonymously. Let us see what God will do. Humility Chapter 6 08/17/2010
Do you remember Drivers-Ed? I do. There came a time, mid-semester, when we left the classroom and for the first time set behind the wheel of a car labeled Studend Driver. Then with sweaty palms, positioned precisely at "10 and 2", we fearfully inched our way into traffic. I was especially fearfull becuase my Drivers-Ed teacher doubled as the varsity football coach. I will never forget how after squeezing his 6-6 frame into the passenger seat of the school's Ford Pinto, he opened the glove box, took the lid of his steaming cup of coffee and set it on the glove-box door. Then, withoug looking at me, he growled, "Smith. Do you have any idea how upset I will be if this coffe ends up in my lap?" Followed by, "Well don't just sit there son. Check for traffic and let's go." In a manner of speaking, that is where we are in our course on humility; It is time to take it for a test-drive. Murray challenges us, in chapter six, with the concept that humility is not true unless it exists in context with our fellow man. You see, it is easy for the mouse to be humble at the foot of the lion. It is when he is humble in the presenced of none but his fellow mice that his humility is proved. Go ahead. Listen to chapter six. Then take what you have learned in the first five chapters for a spin. Consider other's needs before your own. Become the servant of the lowly. Perhaps even wash a few feet. If you struggle, go back and review what you have already learned and try again. Share your experiences here for others to be edified or entertained, as the case may be. And try not to spill too much on the Lord's lap. Humility Chapter 5 08/02/2010
In chapter 5 we see the opposite of humility manifest in Christ's closest disciples before pentecost, contrasted to their Christ-like humility after pentecost. The unescapable conclusion being that we may be possessors of the grace of humility as the Holy Spirit possesses us. Humility Chapter 4 07/26/2010
In this segment, we discover and are invited to participate in the exalted position of "the servant of all". Please bless others by posting your impressions of how these truths can have a positive impact on your walk with the Lord. Humility Chapter 3 07/19/2010
This chapter starts getting down to where the rubber meets the road. It is an excellent word on how to live what we say we believe. Enjoy. Humility Chapter 2 07/14/2010
Once again, I look forward to seeing your comments and your responses to the comments of others. Andrew Murray's book on humility is one I recommend every, christian serious about having a closer relationship with God, read. I myself have committed to reading this little book once a year and encourage all those leading ministries at Vista Hills to do the same. I have been able to procure the book, in its entirety, in an audio format. I thought it might be beneficial to post each chapter here over the next seveal weeks so everyone can listen. It only takes about 10 minutes and I am hoping everyone will listen and then post their thoughts here for the edification of the body. I would love to see a lively conversation about us and the Lord develop as we read each other's posts. Who knows who might be blessed by it. Here is the first chapter. Enjoy |
